Tailgating Like a Lady

Huddle up, ladies! By now, we’re right in the thick of football season, and Skinnygirl® Cocktails has spent a lot of time researching and perfecting the art of everyone’s favorite fall activity – tailgating. A lady knows this pre-game activity sets the stage for football fun and is just as important as the game itself, so we sought advice straight from the pros, literally! Heather Mitts, Olympic gold medalist who also happens to know a thing or two about football (being married to AJ Feeley), gave us her best tailgating ideas for planning a fun and ladylike experience.

Earning the title as “The First Lady of Tailgating” Heather said she’s excited to be working with Skinnygirl® Cocktails to “bring ladies everywhere a new way to cocktail while enjoying the game.”

“When not on the field myself, I’m a big football fan and love attending games,” Heather said. “After years of cheering on my husband, I’ve definitely seen my fair share of good and bad tailgates.”

Drinking beer from a red plastic cup and munching on fried, greasy tailgating food in the stadium parking lot isn’t exactly ladylike, so Skinnygirl® Cocktails is here to prove there’s a more tasteful way to tailgate!

With our effortlessly easy cocktail options for everyone, regardless of which team you’re cheering on!! You can use Skinnygirl™ Tangerine Vodka to mix up one of our festive tailgating recipes:

Next, comes food! Since football can be an all-day affair, make sure you tackle fans’ appetites all day long. Upgrade from tired old hotdogs and burgers with these simple, tasty recipes that will fill guests up without filling them out!

Skinnygirl Sideline Skewers

Ingredients:

  • Skewers
  • Whole cherry tomatoes
  • Fresh basil
  • Fresh Mozzarella
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Directions: Skewer a whole cherry tomato, a fresh basil leaf and a small chunk of fresh Mozzarella. Drizzle with Extra Virgin Olive Oil before serving

Overtime Oat-Cran Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1-1/2 cups quick cooking oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup no-sugar-added applesauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries

Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine all dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in the applesauce, vanilla and cranberries and mix until the batter begins to stick together. If too dry, add additional applesauce, one tablespoon at a time. Drop by teaspoon onto a cookie sheet (sprayed with cooking spray) 2 inches apart.

Bake for eight to nine minutes, or until golden brown. Cookies will still be soft when removed from the oven.

For easy munching, set up a salsa/dip bar with a variety of dippers including tortilla chips, pita bread and fresh cut veggies. Include shredded cheese, guacamole and low fat sour cream with miniature cocktail cups so your guests can create their own layered creations.

And a lady knows it’s all about the presentation, so make sure yours is easy on the eyes! Show your team spirit by making a pennant to dress up your table. Download printing templates you can use over and over again, or design your own using fabric, paper and ribbon. Serve food on large woven chargers, each lined with a dish towel or cloth napkin in your team’s colors. Line the chargers at home, then stack them and pack them in a basket for quick retrieval.

So there you have it, ladies. With Heather Mitts and Skinnygirl® Cocktails, you’ve got touchdown dance-worthy tailgating ideas. Here’s to a fun, festive, football-filled fall, ladies, and remember – a lady ALWAYS drinks responsibly™!
